Walkers Ginger Royals

It is no secret that I am a huge fan of shortbread, ginger, and dark chocolate. So the three together should be like a trio composed of Barry Manilow, Michael Buble and Ben Folds, right? (Did I just hear groaning? I don't care, I think that would kick ass.)

Each biscuit is made of ginger flavored shortbread. According to the extensive research I did by reading the back of the box, the shortbread is is baked with preserved ginger stems and fresh creamery butter (As opposed to old creamery butter? Or stuff hawked by Fabio?), and then the biscuit is enrobed in dark chocolate. So far, so good.

How did they taste?

There is no mistaking that there is ginger in the cookies. There are little bits of candied ginger sprinkled throughout the shortbread. I have to give Walkers points for going with ginger that has fire and bite to it. The ginger really stands up for itself. I love strong, hot ginger, and it was nice that Walker's didn't wuss out and go with something more sweet or mild. The chocolate looks darker on the box picture than it does in real life, but it has a nice rich flavor to it. It's a little waxy at first...but it does look glossy and it melts well.

The shortbread biscuit is buttery and flaky. No matter what Walkers may add to, or top the shortbread with, the shortbread itself is always stellar.

I really loved these biscuits.

Walkers Shortbead Mincemeat Tarts with Glenfiddich Whiskey

Photobucket
Since the holidays are scarily enough just around the corner (as the Christmas decorations already on sale at my local Wal*Mart will attest) I thought I would get a jump on them with a review that kind of screams Thanksgiving to me...
C'mon I know it's not just me- mincemeat is such so Thanksgivingy (that's a word right?). I should be clear that I only like the all fruit version of mincemeat and not the version that actually contains meat- which I know has it's fans, I am just not one of them. Lucky for me this is a meat free version.

I am not sure why but I had thought that the tarts were going to be little tiny bite size tarts. To my happy surprise each tart is about the diameter of a cupcake- they are even in they're own little tins! (we all know I am a sucker for cute packaging)

There is also instantly no doubt that the tarts are in fact made with the Glenfiddich scotch- very generously at that. The first thing you smell is that lovely, lovely scotch. Just as smooth as Sean Connery in his Bond days.

The tart shell is made up of soft and flaky shortbread. The mincemeat is moist and juicy. These were just all around good. I would love to try these warm, maybe with a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.

Walkers Shortbread Lemon Thins

Photobucket
Lemon!
That alone is enough to perk my interest. The good folks over at Walker's sent me over a big box of shortbread goodness to review and out of all the box had to offer I went right to the lemon flavored ones.

I loved these! They are light and flaky. You can actually taste the real butter that Walkers is famous for using in they're shortbread. And even though it is much thinner then the normal Walkers the same great taste is there.

The lemon however is the stand out. It's has a true zesty lemon flavor. Not that fake faux-sweet lemon that cookies sometimes have.
Maybe it is just wishful thinking on the part of my taste buds but what this shortbread reminds me of are my beloved discontinued Girl Scout Lemon Chip cookies sans the chips (oh if only they had lemon chips in here)

Thank you Walkers!
